Atlanta CDC Shooting: DeKalb Officer and Suspect Dead Near Emory University
A deadly shooting unfolded outside the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta on Friday, killing a DeKalb County police officer and the suspected gunman. The attack also struck several CDC buildings near Emory University, prompting a massive law enforcement response.

Authorities recovered multiple firearms at the scene, though the motive remains unknown. No CDC employees were harmed, but Monday will be a remote workday for staff as a security assessment is conducted.
DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson confirmed the slain officer leaves behind a wife, three children, and an unborn child. The CDC Director expressed condolences and gratitude to law enforcement officers who responded to the attack.
